I’m currently a senior at Basehor Linwood High School. I’m involved in a program at my school called Innovation Academy, this is a project-based learning class where they're allowing us as the students to learn in a way that we want. We’ve been able to create and start our own project off what we’re passionate about.

I've based my project on wanting to get my fellow peers more aware of the world around us. School safety and school shootings are a reality we have to face in our society. My main goal for my project is to be able to have a public speaker come to my school.
I want to be able to enlighten my peers about the seriousness and reality of these tragedies we could almost call “normal” in this day of age. I saw Kristina Anderson's video on Youtube where the kids got to meet a school shooting survivor. This video was touching for me to watch and really made me interested in her, her voice, and her message.

I was struggling to find a project that I cared for in the second semester, so I was asked to help LaKaia. I joined the team because I believe that school safety and school shootings need to be talked about and our voices need to be heard. I also joined, because I am a supporter of LaKaia and her campaign We are Worth It!
As team members, we had certain roles, but also had roles as a team. My role in this project or campaign was to look at the financial aspects with sponsors, donations, t-shirts, fundraising, etc. We also worked together as a team. We achieved making crewnecks, attended multiple event venues and meetings, and just bonded. Although it came to an end due to COVID-19, we are still in contact with Kristina, believe in the message, and have done some really great work through this. I am so proud to be a part of a fun team and proud of their accomplishments, hard work, and dedication!
